Midlothian Police on Twitter said that they have located the possible source of the explosion and have units on scene.

The possible source of the explosion is known as Tannerite, which is used for firearms practice.

The Midlothian Police Department confirmed the incident at around 9:30 p.m. they were aware of reports of a possible explosion.

The department said that at around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, “the first responders are trying to determine the source”.

“Midlothian Police and The Fire Department, responded to numerous reports of a loud explosion heard in Midlothian around 9:30pm this evening. We have located the possible source of the explosion and have units on scene and we are investigating it at this time. The possible source is a product called tannerite. We will advise if this is confirmed and issue a press release”.

Several people reported a loud boom and houses were shaking.

The police were asking the resident people to refrain from calling emergency service unless they have an emergency.

There were no injuries reported.
