Russia warns of West Nile Virus

While the coronavirus pandemic is yet to leave the mankind, there are new viruses and their variants emerging in different parts of the globe. Russia yesterday issued a warning after the country saw a rise in the cases of West Nile Virus (WNV) in this autumn season. The virus is carried through mild temperatures Around 80 percent of the cases of West Nile Virus are reported in the southwest part of Russia. Several people are hospitalized and the cases are on a rise in North Dakota. West Nile Virus is a mosquito-borne disease that is traced in the United States of America as per the reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). West Nile Virus is transmitted to the humans through the infected mosquito bites.

The virus got originated in Africa and is traced in the USA, Europe and Asia. This can lead to a deadly neurological condition in human beings. Most of the infected persons had no symptoms. One out of the 150 infected people has serious health complications and deadly illnesses. Insect repellents should be used along with long pants and long-sleeved shirts to avoid mosquito bites. One out of the five infected has shown symptoms of fever, body aches, joint pains, headache, diarrhea and vomiting. Most of the people infected with the West Nile Virus are recovering well but the weakness will continue for months. People of any age can develop serious sickness because of the West Nile Virus and people above the age of 60 are at a higher risk.

For now, there is no treatment or vaccination for West Nile Virus in humans.
