Lalu Prasad Yadav, the 76-year-old former Chief Minister of Bihar, was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday after experiencing a decline in his health while en route to the Patna airport for a flight to Delhi. The leader of the RJD, who had scheduled to board an Air India flight at 4.05 PM, is currently receiving care at Paras Hospital. Reports indicate that Lalu Prasad, who is facing heart-related health issues, saw his condition worsen due to elevated blood sugar levels. It is anticipated that he will be transported to AIIMS in Delhi via air ambulance later today.

Last year, he had an angioplasty procedure at the Asian Heart Institute in Mumbai. Previously, in 2014, he underwent a six-hour aortic valve replacement surgery at the same facility. In July 2024, his health concerns necessitated another hospital stay at AIIMS in Delhi.

In December 2022, he received a kidney transplant in Singapore, with his younger daughter, Rohini Acharya, being the donor. Recognized for his distinctive personality and widespread popularity, the socialist leader is currently serving prison sentences related to several fodder scam cases, having been released on bail for medical reasons. Additionally, Lalu Prasad, along with his wife Rabri Devi and son Tejashwi Yadav, has been implicated in the land-for-jobs scandal. Allegations suggest that he awarded railway jobs in exchange for land plots from applicants or their family members during his time as a minister.
