K Taraka Rama Rao (KTR), the Working President of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), pledged to restore the disputed 400 acres of land belonging to Hyderabad Central University (HCU) in Kancha Gachibowli if his party regains power. He promised to develop the area into a vast eco park. During his speech at Telangana Bhavan, KTR accused the Congress-led government of viewing the land purely as a real estate commodity and cautioned potential buyers about incurring significant losses when BRS reclaims it. He asserted that the proposed eco park would serve as a lasting legacy for future generations and a valuable resource for both HCU students and the residents of Hyderabad.
KTR also targeted Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, alleging that public land is being sold off for personal financial gain. He stated, “We will reclaim every inch and create an exceptional eco park, similar to Central Park in Manhattan,” while advising investors not to be deceived by the government’s strategies.
In expressing support for HCU students who are protesting against what they claim is illegal land encroachment, KTR drew parallels between their struggle and the historic student protests during the Telangana movement. He criticized the Congress administration for their lack of response and warned that there would be a mass march to HCU if the resolution is not overturned. Describing Revanth Reddy as a “real estate broker,” KTR condemned the Congress party for giving priority to land transactions over the public's welfare. “He claims to work tirelessly for 18 hours a day but should allocate at least 10 minutes to consider the future of coming generations, rather than behaving like a property dealer,” he said.
KTR also ridiculed Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka for belittling the concern over wildlife on the HCU campus and accused the government of violating court orders by dispatching bulldozers on weekends to clear land. “What justifies the use of bulldozers on weekends when there are orders from the High Court and Supreme Court against such actions?” he questioned.
Stressing BRS’s achievements in environmental protection, KTR mentioned significant accomplishments, including the planting of 270 crore saplings and an increase of 7.7 percent in Hyderabad’s green cover, according to the Forest Survey of India. “We have transformed Hyderabad into a greener city, earning both national and global accolades,” he stated, while accusing the Congress party of threatening the last substantial green space in the city.
KTR reiterated that BRS has been involved in legal battles to safeguard HCU land and would resist any attempts to sell it. “This land is owned by the people of Hyderabad. We fought in court to protect it, not to sell it for real estate development,” he underscored. He disclosed that BRS members of parliament have raised this issue in the Rajya Sabha, seeking intervention from the central government. “This is not just a political issue; it’s a fight for the future of Hyderabad. We stand firmly with HCU students and environmental advocates on both legal and moral grounds,” he proclaimed. “We will not allow Hyderabad to become just another concrete jungle. This land belongs to the community, and we will guarantee it stays that way,” KTR affirmed.
